Employment Practices
Employment Practice Labour Rights
Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is deeply committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace, where labor rights, including freedom of association and collective bargaining, are fully recognized and supported for all employees—regardless of gender, nationality, or employment status. This commitment is formally embedded in Circular Letter Number 175 of 2022 on Inclusive and Anti-Discrimination Campus Policy, which emphasizes UNAIR’s dedication to an inclusive, non-discriminatory campus environment.
Enabling Employee Associations and Collective Bargaining
At UNAIR, policies actively support the formation of employee associations and labor unions. All staff, including women and international employees, are granted the freedom to collectively discuss, negotiate, and improve workplace conditions. These associations empower employees to represent their interests, ensuring that every staff member’s voice can be part of institutional policy and decision-making processes. The university’s approach encourages transparency and equitable labor practices across the board, promoting a culture where labor rights are fundamental and respected.
Faculty Ambassador Program for International Staff and Global Engagement
UNAIR has created the Faculty Ambassador Program under Rector’s Decree No. 284/UN3/2020. Each faculty designates an ambassador as a liaison with Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE) to provide targeted support for the international staff and students. This programs facilitates effective communication and cross-cultural exchanges, assisting international staff with integration into the academic and cultural environment of UNAIR while promoting collaborative projects and research initiatives with global partners.
Protection and Non-Retaliation Measures
UNAIR’s policies go beyond simply recognizing labor rights; they also protect employees’ rights to unionize and negotiate without fear of retaliation. Stringent non-retaliation measures ensure a safe, supportive environment where employees can freely exercise their rights. This proactive stance aims to safeguard the university community from discrimination and ensures that UNAIR’s workforce—comprising both local and international staff—can contribute meaningfully to workplace reforms and improvements.
By embedding these rights within its core policies, UNAIR reaffirms its role as a progressive, fair employer, dedicated to upholding the standards of labor rights and setting a positive example for higher education institutions throughout the region. This commitment reflects UNAIR’s dedication to aligning with SDG 8, promoting decent work and economic growth through responsible and inclusive practices.
