Employment Practice unions

In step towards inclusivity and equitable labor practices, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has implemented policies to ensure the rights of all staff to join labor unions, extending protections and support for women and international employees. Circular Letter No. 175 of 2022 on Inclusive and Anti-Discrimination Campus Policy codifies these rights, recognizing unions as vital advocates for all UNAIR staff and providing a structured foundation for inclusive support.

This policy represents UNAIR’s official endorsement of union participation, encouraging all employees to exercise their rights without discrimination. To ensure the policy’s alignment with labor regulations, UNAIR has integrated legal expertise into its organizational structure. The Director of Students Affairs, who also serves as a labor law lecturer at the Faculty of Law, actively supports the development and implementation of fair labor practices. This role provides direct guidance on labor rights, helping staff to understand and exercise their rights within the university framework and beyond.

Empowering Female Staff through Skill-Building Initiatives

Recognizing the importance of specialized support for women, UNAIR facilitates skill-building initiatives through the Civil Servants’ Wive Association. This association hosts workshops and training sessions tailored to develop technical and leadership skills for female staff. Programs include training in digital literacy, leadership, and project management, which not only empower women in their roles but also align with the university’s mission to foster professional growth among all employees.

Faculty Ambassador Program for International Staff and Global Engagement

UNAIR has created the Faculty Ambassador Program under Rector’s Decree No. 284/UN3/2020Each faculty designates an ambassador as a liaison with Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE) to provide targeted support for the international staff and students. This programs facilitates effective communication and cross-cultural exchanges, assisting international staff with integration into the academic and cultural environment of UNAIR while promoting collaborative projects and research initiatives with global partners.

Advocacy and Union Collaboration for a Supportive Work Environment

In addition policy measures, UNAIR’s labor law experts regularly engage with union representatives to strengthen understanding and advocacy around employee rights. Workshop and informational sessions on labor rights are held annually to keep the workforce informed of their legal rights, benefits, and protections under Indonesian labor law. These sessions also provide platforms for dialogue, ensuring that employee feedback influences policy updates and workplace practices.

Through these structured policies and programs, UNAIR emphasizes the importance of a supportive, inclusive work environment where all employees, regardless of gender or nationality, are encouraged to participate fully in union activities. The university’s commitment to labor rights, skill development, and international integration sets a notable example for other institutions, underscoring UNAIR’s role as a leader in sustainable, equitable employment practices in Indonesia.
