Collaboration for shared aquatic ecosystems
Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) collaborates with Universitas Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universitas Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), and local communities such as the Fish Cultivation Group (Pokdakan) to work together to increase awareness and education regarding heavy metal and plastic pollution in aquatic ecosystems . Apart from that, as an effort to prevent heavy metal pollution from continuing to decrease, UNAIR also carried out mangrove planting actions with local communities, students and teachers of MA Al Ma’arif, Cumleng Village, Brondong, Lamongan. Mangroves can play an ecological role and help absorb heavy metals in waters, so they can help improve the ecosystem and maintain the sustainability of aquatic ecosystems. Not only that, UNAIR also runs an innovative program (ecobrick) in collaboration with the community around Banyuwangi. This program is a means of educational tourism, beach health and marine ecosystem preservation
