Maintain and extend current ecosystems' biodiversity
Airlangga University is committed to the preservation and expansion of biodiversity, involved in protecting threatened ecosystems and their flora and fauna. We are involved in collaborative efforts in mangrove conservation in the Cemara Banyuwangi coastal area. In collaboration with the Banyuwangi Forestry Service and the local government, we planted 150 new mangrove seedlings. It is an initiative to provide natural infrastructure as erosion reduction and storm absorption. Besides, we put our best effort to preserve the sea turtle species that is being critically endangered. The School of Health and Life Sciences (SIKIA), Banyuwangi Sea Turtle Foundation, and the Environmental Service worked together to the hatching process of sea turtles in our Intan Box Incubator developed by our talented professors. 42 baby turtles hatched successfully from their eggs and were released into Cemara Beach in Banyuwangi. Protecting the hatching process is our initiative to treat endangered animals.
