SDG 17 : Partnerships For The Goals

Relationships To Support The Goals

SDGs Center at UNAIR plays a crucial role in the development of national policies aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), closely collaborating with the Ministry of Planning and Development of Indonesia. As a higher education, we are trying to realise the SDGs, as outlined in Presidential Regulation Number 111 of 2022 for human rights, equality, and comprehensive development. Thus, our participation in identifying challenges, co-creating strategies, and adapting policies to meet regional and national targets by 2030 is important. In the healthcare sector, we demonstrate our commitment by providing the “Merah Putih Vaccine” for Covid-19, which is widely administered in East Java. Collaborating with the Pamekasan Government, we also contribute to sustaining antibodies during the pandemic. This effort not only highlights our problem-solving role but also underscores our involvement in dynamic crisis management, ensuring the health and future resilience of our nation.

In 2022, Universitas Airlangga inaugurated its SDGs Center, initiating collaborative discussions with significant organisations such as the Ministry of National Development Planning and the United Nations Resident Coordinator. This Center is dedicated to spearheading the coordination and realisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within our campus. Furthermore, we took an active role in a nationwide workshop hosted by the Ministry of National Development Planning. This gathering, attended by a diverse group of participants, focused on strengthening cooperation among SDGs Centers, providing guidance for regional SDGs implementation, and optimising communication strategies for SDGs.

In 2022, Universitas Airlangga, in collaboration with the World University Association for Community Development (WUACD), organised a Summit focusing on “Improving Global Environmental Health for Sustainable Community Resilience.” The event incorporated various methodologies and approaches for collecting data related to SDGs. Covering discussions on topics like the green economy, blue economy, health, and food security, the summit attracted participants from over 10 different countries. Additionally, through a collaborative framework with Universiti Putra Malaysia, this summit exemplified collaborative data-driven efforts to advance SDGs on a global scale. We also took part in the agenda of the Association of the Universities of Asia and the Pacific in Bangladesh, where they presented material related to research and community service implementation in line with SDGs, along with our achievement in developing the COVID vaccine in Indonesia as a contribution to achieving SDGs 3.

Universitas Airlangga has established partnerships with NGOs to advanced the goals outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We have GELIAT Airlangga programme in which we work closely with the Muslim NGO (Muslimat Nahdlutul Ulama) accross East Java province. The goal we want to achive is giving routine immunisation for children to address the decrease immunisation rate during Covid-19 Pandemic. In the immunisation programme, we had also given assistance to promote the importance of immunisation for child and monitor the well-being of children. In partnership with WALHI and PADEPOKAN ASA in Yogyakarta, we facilitated discussion and shared our best practices with the local NGOs. It aimed to propose several programmes related to SDGs 6, 13, 14, and 15 to be implemented in local community across East Java.

Education For The SDGs

Our dedication to provide meaningful education on SDGs is demonstrated in the integration of SDGs-based concepts into the curriculum, modules, and courses across various faculties at Universitas Airlangga. In its implementation, we strongly uphold Sustainable Education for All in our strategic plan. It shows that every program and curriculum offered is aligned with and contributes to the SDGs, and it is applicable to all students. Our university has also offered practical knowledge through volunteering programmes during 2022 in SDGs Center which students are able to partipate in sustainability learning and events including the development of SDGs learning modules. In supporting academic research; Universitas Airlangga established the Environmental, Social and Governance Studies Center which it also aims to provide solution and policy recommendation for ESG. These programms and initiatives are both part of our commitment for meaningful and sustainable education to all of our students.

Universitas Airlangga dedicates to emphasis on sustainable development through specialised courses across multiple disciplines. Several courses have aligned with the core of SDGs, i.e., “Sustainable World Development” for international relations undergraduate programme and “Sociology of Gender” for sociology undergraduate programme. Moreover, Centre for Sustainable Environment and Energy Studies in our campus leads a postgraduate program that covers a wide range of subjects including law and development, disaster management, forensic science, and police science. However, we offer elective course open to all students focusing on SDGs, i.e., “Natural Resource Economics from an Islamic Perspective” and a postgraduate offering on “Women Empowerment.”

Regarding the outreaching programme, we conduct several sessions with the help of alumni and local communities. For SDG 3, Faculty of Medicine (FK) is at the forefront of a health-focused community service initiative that covers 109 locations across Indonesia. Key aspects of this program include efforts to reduce stunting, provide comprehensive prenatal care— including offering ultrasounds for expectant mothers—and raising awareness about the impacts of excessive gadget usage on children. This initiative is strengthened by the knowledge and experience of 20 specialised doctors, who graduated from the Class of ’94 at FK UNAIR. They bring expertise in various areas, from pediatrics and obstetrics to pulmonary care. Working closely with local Health Services, our specialists, in collaboration with general practitioners, share their valuable insights and skills with the community. This program demonstrates our support in addressing stunting and maternal mortality.
