Campus Food Waste
Campus Food Waste Tracking
The Campus Food Waste Tracking indicator is a crucial metric used in evaluating universities efforts to combat food waste as part of SDG 2. It will assess whether Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) actively measures the amount of food waste generated from its dining services, thereby reflecting its commitment to sustainability and responsible resource management.
Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) measures the amount of food waste in every year. In 2022, UNAIR revealed 73 tonnes of food waste. Emphasizing transparency and a sustainable approach, whether food services are in-house or outsourced, procedures are in place to manage waste effectively. Student Hunger
Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) prioritizes combatting student food insecurity. Through our social fund management center, we have introduced “Jumat Berkah”, distributing free weekly meals to 1,000 students. Additionally, during Holy Ramadhan, we offer 5,000 free meals for our academic community. On the University’s anniversary, another 10,000 meals are provided. In 2022, our commitment scales up, aiming to supply over 20,000 meals. At UNAIR, we understand the paramount importance of nourishment and support for our students, ensuring they never face food insecurity during their academic journey.
Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) provides intervention or prevention to alleviate hunger among students and staff. UNAIR Cafetaria offers healthy, affordable options and nutritious meals through Airlangga Bangun Persada (ABADA) catering that can be accessed by students and staff at UNAIR. Annually, UNAIR consistently conducts food tests for individuals aspiring to become cafeteria food vendors. This shows that UNAIR is safeguarding the quality and nutrition of the food provided. In addition, UNAIR has the Center for Social Fund Management (PUSPAS), which regularly provides food assistance to students and staff. By 2022, PUSPAS provided as many as 20,000 free foods, including during holy Ramadan, UNAIR’s anniversary, and Food Aid every Friday. Moreover, UNAIR regulates the staff food allowance through Rector’s Decree No. 333/UN3/2020 according to their presence. UNAIR gives an allowance of around IDR 35,000 to IDR 37,000 to each staff member every day.
